Feel Good Friday in Lancaster and Morecambe- Episode 8

Posted on Thursday, March 25, 2021

Hello and welcome to Week 8's Feel Good Friday!  It's officially the first week of Spring...the cold dark Winter nights are behind us!   This week's 3-minute read covers several heartwarming headlines and new stories all from our wonderful local area!!

In Caton

We start this week by heading over to Caton where the ever-popular Woodies breakfast bar has reopened for business - a great place to stop off on your fresh air countryside walk!  Run by local resident Lisa Woodruff, her popular breakfast menu is sure to wet your appetite (The Bacon Butties are amazing!!!!!)

Staying in this beautiful village, the children of Caton Primary School have been helping the community by offering support to anyone who has been feeling a little low during these challenging times. They had a great response and several cards and messages were sent to residents in and around the local area.... an amazing idea and great work everyone!

Back in Lancaster

Have you heard about Lancaster's Relay Running Vicar?  Despite busy planning and preparing for his Easter services, Reverand Matt Guilder, Vicar of St Thomas' Church in Lancaster has set off with a team of relay runners starting at Fell Foot, Windermere with the aim of finishing in Bushy Park in London 7 days later - the home of where Parkrun began!  As well as celebrating the Parkrun phenomenon, the team of approx. 90 runners aim to gain publicity for a book published this week titled 'How Parkruns Changed Our Lives'.  Reverand Guilder has chosen to run in his vicar attire (including dog collar), a park run T-shirt and each relay member will also carry a copy of the book all the way to the finish line before handing it over to founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt.

It has been a year since we were told to 'Stay at Home and Save Lives' and a Lancaster care home have shared amazing news that to date, their staff/residents haven't had a single case of Covid 19!  Moorside Nursing Home are one of only a few homes in the country to celebrate such news and we have to applaud the team and residents/families for all their efforts!!!

And finally The popular Gregson Centre in Freehold, Lancaster have announced plans to reopen their doors!  Launching a campaign on Monday to reopen as a community led venue, the Freehold Community voiced their support and after only a few hours, raised a total of £9,247! It just needed approx. £750 to secure the match funding. Do you live in Freehold? Have you missed visiting the much-loved centre?  Maybe you have some great memories to share? If so, let us know we would love to hear!

Proof again that we really do have a group of amazing communities in this amazing corner of the world! I will be back next week for some more heart warming, feel good stories but in the meantime..

Enjoy your weekend, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are Coming"

Thanks for reading!
