Feel Good Friday in Lancaster and Morecambe- Episode 5

Posted on Friday, March 5, 2021

Welcome to Week 5's Feel Good Friday! The first week of March officially ticked off and if your needing time out from the Budget news from Westminster this week - take a stroll into your kitchen, pop the kettle on and get your self comfortable (why not enjoy a biscuit or 2 ..after all, its Friday.  You deserve it!). We have a 3-minute read of feel-good stories which were sure you'll enjoy!

National News

First up...let's head up to Perth, Scotland where an unsuspecting Kitchen fitter stumbled across an unusual gift whilst out on a job!

Craig Hariggan was replacing kitchen units for a client when he discovered a handwritten message under the kitchen flooring.  The message read "Jack & May lived here, 3 kids and a dog. Kitchen done up April/May 2001. All the best have a drink on me" Besides the note was a miniature bottle of Glenkinchie Whiskey which turns out to have been left by the previous homeowner's.   20 years it's been down there and nobody knew!  This find was filmed and has since gone viral.  Have you had any messages/gifts left by previous owners in secret locations?

In Morecambe

News closer to home now and it appears that work is finally underway on the abandoned Frontierland site, on Morecambe Promenade.  The land is currently owned by Morrisons Supermarket and had until recently been left in a dilapidated condition out of sight behind a row of blue-painted old wooden fencing.  Fork lift trucks are zooming by whilst on the other side of the fence facing the sea, local artists have been given the opportunity to showcase their work.  So far we have seen a bright and beautiful painted image of 'Morecambes daughter' Thora Hird alongside other vibrant colourful pieces of art.

Britain's largest family and residents of Morecambe, The Radfords, have been sharing their lockdown experiences on a 4 part series shown on Channel 5.  In a recent episode, Dad Noel had to temporarily close his business due to lockdown restrictions and has since made the decision to take his Heysham based Pie business online ensuring the good people in the Bay area didn't go without missing their favourite pies. Since the episode aired last week, the online business has been inundated and due to this, have had to close for a few days to catch up with the volume of orders! The business will resume in the coming days ... phew!

Lancaster

And finally, in Lancaster, new and highly accurate covid 19 quick test trials are underway at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary!  The Vh6 test has been developed at Lancaster University with assistance from Brunel University, London and the University of Surrey. If successful this quick testing device operation could be rolled out across the country and as it is designed for early case detecting, this could prevent community spread resulting in driving down infection rates!
