Feel Good Friday in Lancaster and Morecambe - Episode 26

Posted on Friday, August 6, 2021

Welcome to the home of happy, positive stories from Lancaster and Morecambe.   We are all fed up of doom and gloom.  We like to focus on the positive.  The stories we share can big or small.  The only rule is they have to happy and make you feel good!

In Morecambe

This weeks big story has to be the news that surrounds the Eden Project.   The Eden Project North is one step closer as Lancaster City Council which owns the land on which Eden is to be built on, has agreed a deal to transfer the land to Eden,  subject to planning permission and funding being agreed.   Surely the planning permission is just a formailty?   The Eden team have also produced a timeline of proposed events.   You can see it here.  I know where I plan to go in Summer 2024!

Have you heard of The Good Things Collective?  If not, please check them out.  This group formed in 2015.  They  focus on working together as a community, to secure the necessary skills, stuff and space that our community needs to thrive.  They bring people together through art.   Anyway,  they have a online art auction where you can bid for unique, individual pieces of art.  All profits generated from sales will be used to support the ongoing work of the Good Things Collective.  Bids start at just 99p!   Check them out here - there is some serious talent!

We love a love story, and what could be better than local couple Jackie and David Nightingale who celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary on August 7.   They met when they were aged 15 and 16 in the Tivoli Bar in Morecambe and married when Jackie turned 18.  Their wedding reception was the York Hotel.   I wonmder if they'll go back their for an anniversary dinner?    They say the secret for a happy marriage is teamwork.   At JDG or motto has always been Teamwork makes the dreamwork!      Congratulations to the happy couple!

In Lancaster

Fiesta Italia is back!   This superb event which attracted 100's of people to the city back in 2019 is back with bang this September.  Who else remembers the fabulous super cars, tasty Italian Food and lots of Italian themed fun.    It's been announced it will be held in Lancaster in the city centre on Sunday September 19th.   Hopefully we will see you there!

Also in Lancaster,  the Love Lancaster Business awards are launching again next week.  This is your chance to nominate for your favourite business or top employee.    There is also a great category for Lancaster's Superhero of Year.   Who will you vote for you?   Who's gone the extra mile for you and for the city?

And finally we salute local metal detecting enthusiast, Matthew Hepworth who once again succeeded in helping reunite a very precious missing item of jewellery to a very grateful owner. Pat Makin, a resident of Westgate, Morecambe, was devastated when her ring was missing as it was designed and made using elements from her Nanna, Mother and her own wedding ring.  6 weeks passed and as it was unclear where the ring was lost, it was beginning to look like the ring had gone forever. Pat had searched high and low to no avail. After posting on social media, Matthew got in touch. He brought his metal detector round to Pat's home and got to the last section of the garden and found it!!

We hope you have enjoyed this weeks Feel Good Friday.   It might be raining today, but inside we feel sunny.  If you have any great stories to share, please just let us know.  We would love to feature them!

Better Days are truly coming....
