Feel Good Friday in Lancaster and Morecambe- Episode 14

Posted on Thursday, May 13, 2021

Hello and welcome to this weeks Feel Good Friday read, where we look at all the feel-good and often fun news from around the world and in our local area.  Let's start by acknowledging that today, Friday 14th May is a special day indeed....

Not only is it Olly Murs, George Lucas and Mark Zuckerberg's birthdays.... today is also officially 'NATIONAL DANCE LIKE A CHICKEN DAY'!  This annual global celebration is a tribute to the popular party dance anthem (which in the UK is known as The Birdie song) composed in the 1950s by Mr. Werner Thomas...COCK A DOODLE DOO!

Morecambe

Sport now and Morecambe FC's dreams of promotion from League 2 are still very much alive, despite results elsewhere not going their way last weekend.  The Shrimps defeated Bradford City but with Cambridge Utd also winning their match vs Grimsby Town, United took the last automatic promotion place. A Play-Off Semi-Final with Tranmere Rovers is now taking place at The Mazuma Stadium on Sunday in front of a limited number of home supporters...We wish Derek Adams and the whole Morecambe squad the best of luck!!

Lancaster

We reported a few weeks back about The Gregson Centre's Crowd Funding mission with the aim of raising enough funds to carry extensive repairs before being able to reopen fully for business. We are delighted to hear thanks to the generosity of the local Lancaster and Freehold community so far, over £25,000 has been raised! The Centre's owner Billy Pye has confirmed that this money will help reopen the building, employ staff and have the bar up and running in the future! Can't wait!

Roads in Lancaster and Caton

And finally, Lancaster and the Lune Valley village of Caton have been selected as part of a national £7.9 million investment programme updating the lighting and layout of our roads, the A6 and A683.  The 'Safer Roads Programme' is being funded by the Government's Department for Transport to improve overall safety on these roads after a number of serious incidents reported recently.  With Speeding highlighted as a significant problem, the scheme aims to improve lighting and put in speed reducing measures, improve awareness at junctions and highlight tight corners.  Safer Roads sounds great to me!

I hope you've enjoyed this week's read and if you have any feel-good news you wish to share, let me know!

In the  meantime... Enjoy your weekend, keep smiling and remember -"Better Days are coming"

Thanks for reading,
