Posted on Monday, April 27, 2020

As well as stunning sunsets, fantastic views across the Bay and fresh sea air, when you ask the people of Morecambe what they also love about this area many will say the local amenities on the doorstep. With a mix of local independent businesses, the market, local shopping centre and the library plus national brands too such as the supermarket chains like Morrisons and Aldi and stores such as Next and Homebase, everything you need for day to day living is on the doorstep.
Five things we love about Morecambe Centre

The area is well served with regular bus routes, the train station and plenty of car parking across the area.

Not forgetting, of course, many people also love the rich heritage that Morecambe holds. From stunning Victorian architecture seen on buildings like the Morecambe Winter Gardens and splendid examples of art deco design at The Midland, to the heritage that includes memories of stars from years gone by who were part of the wonderful entertainment scene in this seaside resort.

Here are 5 things we love about Morecambe when it comes to shops and amenities!

1. The Festival Market

It’s very easy to spend a couple of hours at The Festival Market. There are over 80 stalls to look round! Items on sale range from plants, household goods, sweet treats, clothes and books and music. You’ll be ok come rain or shine as the market is undercover, it’s right on the promenade with a car park next door. Once you’ve finished your shopping you can enjoy a hot drink and some food at one of the friendly cafes in the market. If you fancy a visit the Festival Market is open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Check online for opening hours. http://www.lancaster.gov.uk/sites/markets/festival-market

2. Local independent shops and businesses

Bay Beds

Based on Queen Street, Bay Beds opened in 2010. It’s a local, independent family run business and for friendly knowledgeable advice just speak to Ross who will be happy to advise you on your next bed purchase.

Browns Carpets

This is a family business spanning 3 generations and over 35 years. The friendly showroom is located at the bottom of Queen Street. Once you step inside you’ll be amazed at how big it is! There are no less than 7 carpet and furniture showrooms. So if you are looking for a new carpet or may be thinking about a new suite or bed or you need some extra furnishings like a mirror, a new rug or a picture pop into Browns, one of the largest businesses of its kind in the area.

Briggs Shoes

With a lovely shop on the seafront, this is a long-established family run business. The Briggs family have been selling shoes from 1865! So if are looking for knowledge and experience when you are choosing your next pair of shoes coupled with friendly customer service pop into Briggs. They stock well known brands from Skechers to Roamers to Padders and you may not know that they also stock clothing too.

Kennedys Butchers

In 1996 Kennedy’s opened the doors to the business. Kennedy’s butchers are small and family-run, however not so small that they actually have the butchers shop on Regent Street in Morecambe plus 3 stalls in the Festival Market!  The expansion into the Festival Market is down to the success and popularity of this local business. They don’t just sell meat either, as well as hand made sausages and burgers and lots of other meats you can also purchase cheese and bakery items such as homemade pies, cakes and pastries. The produce is so tasty people travel from far and wide to enjoy it!

3.The Railway Station

Morecambe enjoys great transport links, one of them being the train station. This seaside resort enjoys a centrally located train station on the Morecambe Branch Line from Lancaster to Heysham. There is a ticket office (check for opening hours) and ticket machines. Connecting trains for longer journeys can be caught from Lancaster Railway station which is just a short 10 min train ride away from Morecambe station.

4. The Heritage

In years gone by Morecambe enjoyed a status as one of the major entertainment capitals of the North! The wonderful team at Morecambe Heritage have put together a fantastic exhibition showcasing entertainment from the 1950s to the 1980s.  Pay a visit to see memorabilia that includes film, photos and moments captured on video.  It’s free to go in and is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.  For opening times and more information visit: http://morecambeheritage.co.uk/
