Love where you live - A pleasurable walk around LA1 5

Posted on Monday, March 30, 2020

What do you love most about where you live?   Today Jody shares one of her passions.  Walking.... "I live just a ten-minute walk from the city centre of Lancaster.  I love having all the amenities of the city right on my doorstep but what I love even more is that I can walk out of my front door and access walks and green-space within minutes, with no need to get in a car.  This walk is just a few minutes from my home."

The Fairfield Association Nature Reserve

Just 10 minutes away from Lancaster Railway Station you can find 16 acres of fields and wetland.

From Westbourne Road, turn down Ashfield Avenue and go to the end of Sunnyside Lane to access this beautiful area.

Thanks to the designated paths it is an accessible space for prams, wheelchairs and walkers.

Look out for Oystercatchers, Lapwings, butterflies and small mammals. You can even see White Park cattle grazing the grassland.

There are a number of public footpaths that run across this area linking Fairfield Orchard to the access gate via Cromwell Road near Lancaster Canal.

How lucky are we to live so close to the city, yet have this on our doorstep.
