Love where you live - A enjoyable short walk in Greaves

Posted on Thursday, April 9, 2020

This week's short walk is courtesy of David from our sales team.   Not everybody wants a long walk - and sometimes it is good just to be able to stroll out of your own front door and realise what we have on our downstep to enjoy and appreciate.   Over to David.....
Love where you live - A enjoyable short walk in Greaves

You will, of course, heard this before, but a walk can do wonders for the mind, body and soul.  Living in such a beautiful and historic City such as Lancaster, we are blessed with some really picturesque strolls to take advantage of.  Canals towpaths, riverside walks and nature reserves to name a few points of interest.   Some 'out of towners' may even describe us as being lucky and privileged...and I'd have to agree and on that note, I wanted to share my favourite walk around the area I live... LA1 4.

A 2-minute walk along the A6 and we have the start point (or what I regard as the start).  Bridge Road is a gorgeous old road linking the Greaves Rd (continuation of Scotforth Rd) with Ashton Road.  A gentle meander down here is the perfect introduction to what lies ahead.  Gorgeous period properties to one side and an extremely popular allotment to the other.  A quick smile and wave to the busy gardeners tending to there patches and on I go, under the bridge and out on to Ashton Road.

From here it's a left turn as I continue the walk.  There is so much historic architecture to soak up on this leafy road.  The imposing 'Nazareth House' is nestled away behind the many tall and mature trees lining Ashton Rd.  A little further along is the incredible Gothic looking Girls Islamic school building with beautiful and well-kept grounds to admire.  My favourite sight on this walk has to be the attractive 'Storey Hall', a quick detour up the winding path allows you to appreciate this beautiful old building and its grounds.

As easy as it would be to continue walking all the way to Glasson Dock, my particular walk ends at the entrance to the canal towpath.  Once more this is the start or continuation of another glorious walk to be enjoyed in wonderful Lancaster.   On a weekend I often continue, but we'll save that for another post!
