What we love
This property is a fine example of a large traditional residence. Externally the impressive double fronted bays top and bottom are stunning, and demonstrate splendid design and craftsmanship of a bygone era. Inside the home is warm and welcoming, and boasts a whole host of traditional features. All the rooms are of a generous size and the garden that wraps itself around the property, full of nooks and cranny's is a complete bonus. Additionally, the separate entrance to the back of the property with a garage and off street parking for several cars is a real welcome addition.
Thornton Road lies close to the heart of the area known as Poulton-Le-Sands. Well situated for walks into Morecambe town centre the area has become increasingly popular. Well placed for sunset walks on the promenade the area offers plenty of local amenities and independent retailers and fantastic transport links for both public and private vehicles.
The living space
As you enter the home you will find yourself in a handy vestibule with a delightful chequerboard floor and the original 1930's arched doorway with stained glass inserts. Once inside you will find a treasure trove of period indicative features. We embark upon the front lounge first and are instantly met by a warm and inviting space. Taking centre stage is a rather grand and beautiful cream stone and marble fireplace within which a coal effect gas fire resides. A pleasant butter cream colour adorns the walls with complimenting white painted coving, picture rail and skirting boards, reflecting the natural light from the large bay window. Exposed floor boards lie underfoot and up above intricate mouldings and a rose make for a beautiful ceiling. A second, smaller reception room lies within the homes second bay window, sporting beige carpeting and terracotta walls. It currently acts as the family's music room. To the rear of the home is the 3rd reception room, a fabulous drawing room or study, it overlooks the rear garden. Again acting as a rather fetching focal point is an original cast iron, open, fireplace. Original built in cabinetry, exposed floorboards, the picture rail and tasteful décor add to the charm.
The kitchen/dining space is quite obviously the heart of this family home and there fore the 'L' shaped room offers space to dine, relax and cook. The fitted kitchen lies towards one end of the space, featuring modern, light beech cabinetry and a contrasting darker grey, granite effect work surface. There is plenty of storage on offer and space and plumbing for all the expected appliances both large and counter top and the Gas hob, oven and extractor fan are integrated within the units. Charcoal, grey, beige and chocolate coloured tiling provides an attractive splash back, with terracotta coloured, stone tiling to the floor which changes to those exposed floorboards in the dining end. Adjacent to the kitchen/diner is a handy ground floor shower room/utility space, its perfect for all the laundry which inevitably comes with a large family and offers that extra bathroom during the morning rush!
Bedrooms & Bathroom
When we step on to the first floor we are first met by a rather large, wide landing space which offers plenty of room for a home office to sit to one end. The master bedroom sits at the front of the property, benefiting from that large bay window. It is elegantly decorated in a soft grey, white and a duck egg blue. A feature fleur de lys style paper sits to one wall and those high ceilings, picture rails and ceiling moulds make another appearance. There is space to accommodate a king size bed and an assortment of furniture in accompaniment. The second bedroom is another sizeable room with space to accommodate a king size bed. We see another delightful fireplace acting as a focal point and again those charming exposed floorboards can be seen. Decorated in ivory and white it offers a relaxing space in which to unwind. The third bedroom is situated at the front of the home, benefiting from a large bay window and built in storage it is rather stylishly decorated in red and white with those floorboards brought into the modern era via a rather fetching white wash. The fourth and fifth bedrooms sit at the rear of the home and are conjoined offering a great space to situate a study off the bedroom, a nursery or perhaps a fantastic dressing room. Both of these spaces can accommodate double beds.
The family bathroom is 'L' shaped. It features a white 3 piece suite consisting of W.C, wash basin and bath tub with shower overhead.
A roll down wooden staircase offers access to a fantastic attic room where there is so much space for storage or a study/play room!
The front of the property offers private gardens in which to sit and enjoy some peace and quiet. The rear of the home is low maintenance with planted borders and mature shrubbery alongside a whole host of potted plants. To the side of the home is a delightful lawn garden with shed. Plenty of room for raised beds and grow your own veg. The overall size the garden covers to three sides of the property is very deceptive. There is space for everyone , a further large area has a garage and extra parking for at least 4 cars.
